TIFF compared with a JPG sharing copy
TIFF is common in scanning, prepress and professional image workflows. It can hold high-detail raster data and may contain multiple pages, which makes it less convenient in many everyday apps.
JPG is a single, opaque image with broad compatibility. Its lossy compression can reduce file size substantially, but the exact reduction and visible quality depend on the source and quality setting.
Current TIFF decoder limits
The engine reads the first TIFF image directory only. If a TIFF contains several pages, only page one is previewed and converted; the remaining pages are not included in the JPG.
JPG cannot carry a TIFF alpha channel. Transparent decoded pixels are composited over the selected background, and the first page keeps its original pixel dimensions.

Can this converter handle a multi-page TIFF?
It opens the file but converts only its first page. Use a dedicated multi-page TIFF workflow when every page is required.
Why can the JPG be much smaller than the TIFF?
JPG discards some visual information to compress photographic pixels efficiently. TIFF compression and contents vary, so the size reduction is not guaranteed.
What happens to TIFF transparency?
Any transparency decoded from the first page is replaced by the background color selected in the converter because JPG has no alpha channel.
Does the converter change the TIFF file?
No. It creates a separate JPG from the first decoded image and leaves the original TIFF unchanged.
