How to compress an image to 1 MB
Use the 1 MB preset when an upload requires a photo at or below roughly 1 MB. The tool treats 1 MB as 1024 KB, shows the actual output size and preserves more detail than the much smaller KB presets when the source allows it.

Why the final file size can vary
The result aims for 1 MB, but an exact byte count is not always possible. Image dimensions, format and visual complexity affect the smallest useful result; the tool may reduce dimensions when quality alone cannot reach the target.
